Being Yelled at by the Doc

Jason went to see his doctor today as a follow-up. Jason has high blood pressure at the young age of 27 (he has had it for several years). Jason has family history of major heart problems. Jason's dad left this world at a young age of 53 from a heart attack. He had an uncle who passed in his early 40's. Now granted, both of these men were obese and smokers. Jason does not smoke. Jason's dad was in great shape at Jason's age. Jason has been prescribed with blood pressure medicine (along with other things) that he RARELY takes. His doctor asked him about his medicine, and when he told her that he does not take it consistently, SHE YELLED AT HIM. "They are not doing you any good inside the bottle," she told him. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall.

I often joke with Jason that I will be a widow at 50, but in all honesty, it is something that worries me considering his hereditary and his current habits (ie-NOT taking his medicine). I think he got the wake-up call he deserved. I love him too much for him to make silly choices like this.
Another thing that the doctor set him straight with was his soda intake. Jason thinks one or two sodas a day is not a big deal! Now before he started working for Coke, we rarely kept soda in the house. I still feel that we do not, but he gets free soda when he is at the warehouse. Jason told his doctor that he wanted to put on 10-15 pounds of muscle for football season. She told him he would put on 10-15 pounds of fat if he kept drinking like that.

Now let me just describe our doctor. She is this tiny petite woman from India. I love that fact that 6'3", 240ish pound got yelled at by our petite doctor (who maybe weighs 100 pounds) because she cares. Now I do not have to be the bad guy or bad wife.

Youth Fireside/Dance

This last Saturday, we had an amazing tri-stake activity. It started off with a Fireside (a meeting with an inspiritional speaker) by our Oklahoma City Temple president. He was an amazing speaker. He has done so much in his lifetime. A comment that he said that inspired me the most was that when he was first married, he wanted to get done with school so he took 21 credit hours, worked full-time, had a family, and was a member of the bishopric (or maybe at that time he was Bishop or Stake President-he got called to be Stake President his last year of grad school). He said that while someone else might be able to accomplish something that took only 3 hours, it took him 8 hours. He said he made up with it by not sleeping. He said he was good to go with just a few hours of sleep a few times a week. Other than that, he stayed up all night. He said he showed no signs of sleep deprovation. He said this continued for about the next 30 years! Could you imagine surviving off of so little sleep each week for 30 years?! He is also two handshakes away from Joseph Smith. Since I shook his hand, I am three handshakes away from Joseph Smith. After the fireside, there was a dance. I had a blast.

In this picture are three leaders (myself included) and three of our Young Women.

I love dance song that have specific moves to go along with them that are easy to pick up like The Macarena, Electric Slide, Cotton Eyed Joe, etc. There was this lady there that knew the Thriller dance. It looked this some much fun. I was to learn that one (it looks a little complicated, but practice will bring it all together).

Only in Oklahoma

This post is more for my benefit (I think), but maybe some of you will get a kick out of it like I do. I, in no way, am trying to offend anyone in Oklahoma or anyone that does or says these things. I just grew up in California which a semi-different culture.

Only in Oklahoma...do you get a daily allergy update on the radio. This radio station reports on which weeds, trees, etc. are affecting the area at that time.

Only in Oklahoma...do you hear the phrase, "Do what now?" when someone wants you to repeat what you said instead of saying, "What did you say?"
Only in Oklahoma...do you hear people say fixin'. "I'm fixin' to go to the store," "I'm fixin' to make dinner," etc. Okay, so maybe this phrase is not as prevelent here as it is in Texas, but I just laugh at it.

Only in Oklahoma...do people refer to soda as "pop." Okay, I know I have heard this elsewhere in the country, but I just love how different areas refer to things different. In California, you RARELY heard someone refer to soda as POP. It is more common here. I have even started to catch Jason saying it a time or two.

I am sure there are more, but I cannot think of them all right now. This is a post I have been wanting to do for awhile now. I would love for people to comment about other "Only in Oklahoma"

Go Cowboys

Since I have not posted in over a week, and I do not have much to blog about, I thought I would post a picture of Jason.

A couple of weeks ago, one of my Young Women came over for a game night. She was talking about the Rams, and then Jason said something to the affect of he is all about the Cowboys. She said she does not like the Cowboys. Jason left for a bit and came back looking like this. He has to represent.
*Jason's two favorite teams are the Cowboys-Dallas and OSU

I hate Yellow Jackets

While going to get the mail yesterday, I got stung by a yellow jacket. It hurt instantly. Now I was stung by a normal bee when I was about 8. I remember it hurting, but not that much (and as a kid, you tend to over analyze things). Yesterday the sting hurt for a long time. The redness of the sting area was about 2 inches in diameter.

I later was talking to my neighbor, and she asked if the yellow jacket's nest was still under our mailbox. I told her I had not even noticed it, and that I had gotten stung about an hour before. I told her I would have Jason take care of it.

As soon as Jason heard that we had a nest, he said he would take care of it when he got home. Jason came home from work, took off his work shoes, put on some other shoes, and went outside to make sure that his wife would not be stung again. I am so glad that I am married to a husband who is not one of those guys who gets afraid around bugs/spiders.

Our not so uneventful night

So tonight Jason and I found ourselves using the following "tools" for the same task.

Notice from top to bottom there is a piece of 1x4, a butter knife, a screwdriver, a crowbar, and pruning shears. Now what might all these have to do with accomplishing the same task. Well, look at the picture below.

This is a picture of our office door (I am standing inside the office taking the picture). On the left is the entrance to the hallway, on the right is the wall where I thought it would be convenient to store our folding chairs. Well, Jason and I hear a big crash tonight and went to see where the noise came from. We found the office door shut. We tried opening it, but we could not because a chair had fallen, causing the door to close, and creating a wedge that would not allow the door to move at all. Jason thought that there was no way we would be able to open it, and we would have to knock down the door. Now I am stubborn, but I like to think that I am the good kind of stubborn (most of the time). I said no. We can do this. I was able to get my fingers underneath the door and pushed the chair up a few inches, but this did nothing. Then I grabbed a screwdriver. This just got lost underneath the door within seconds. I then went for the butter knife (don't ask, I was thinking of everything). I needed something that could fit underneath the door and that I could use as leverage the lift the chair a few more inches so the the door could open some, and when the door would open, it would cause the chair the lift back up.
Jason then came in with the crowbar. This did make some headway. We were able to push the chair over some with it, but it was not the winning tool. Jason then appeared with the pruning shears. These were longer and easier to grip. They fit underneath the door, but the fit was too snug so he did not get too far with it. I then tried the broom handle. This last only seconds also because the handle bent (I had to go to Wal-Mart tonight to buy another broom).

Below is the aftermath.

And the winning tool is.....

Jason and a 1x4. He got the 1x4 under the door and repeatedly smacked the chair until the chair was not longer a wedge and out of the way. In the mean time, another chair had fallen on top of the wedged chair. Surprisingly, the door and the wall have no damage, but when you put my 4 black folding chairs together, it takes only a microsecond to find the one that was violated by many tools.

During this whole situation, Jason was of course frustrated and still thought after trying many different tools, that we would still have to break down the door. I do not know why, but for some reason I know that would not have to happen, and I would rather replace a chair (or a broom) than a door. I knew that it would be a great story to tell.

Our fun weekend

My mom flew in to Oklahoma last week so we spent the weekend in Tulsa visiting. I was able to take Monday off so it made for a nice long weekend.

Jason and I ate at Dave & Busters on Saturday night (not something to write home about this time, unlike our first time eating there in February), and then we went over to my sister's.

When we got there on Saturday it was after 6, and Andrew was still sleeping. Erica said he needed to wake-up. Jason offered to wake him up. Jason could not get him to wake-up. I said, "Andrew, Aunt Kristen has some marshmellows," and he woke-up. Jason said, "Are you kidding me?!"

We just hung low on Saturday since we got there after dinner.

We of course played Ticket to Ride. On Sunday, we went to church, played again, ate dinner, went on a walk, and played some more until 1:30.

Eliza kept us busy on the slide. She loved going down it. She would squawk if you took too long.

On Monday, my mom took everyone to see Up. Such a good movie. I think we might have to buy that one.

We then went to eat at Cheddar's for lunch.

Eliza did pretty good during the movie, but by lunch, she was beyond ready for bed.

We stayed up late again on Monday night (I went to bed earlier than everyone else since I had to be in to work at 8 the next morning. It was a great weekend and it was good to see my mom again. Now we just need to get my mom and my dad out here at the same time. Thanks Mom and Erica for everything; we had a lot of fun.
